Exterior Finishing of a Modern Glulam House

Project

Complete exterior finishing of a modern glue-laminated timber (glulam) house from Struktur – cladding, roofing metal, and correcting the fit of windows and doors.

Selfoss.

Work started on July 31st and continued through to December.

Condition Before

When we took over the project, the house’s frame – built from glue-laminated timber by the company Struktur – was already erected and wrapped in a wind barrier membrane. The company that built the frame had installed roof windows that turned out to be leaking, and the windows and doors hadn’t been fitted correctly either.

Scope of Work

The scope covered the entire exterior finish: we added insulation (which in this house sits on the outside), installed counter-battens and battens over the membrane, corrected the poorly fitted windows and doors, and finally installed full metal cladding and roofing across the whole house.

Execution

The longest metal sheets were nearly 7 metres long and had to be precisely cut around two windows along the way. The house is designed in a modern style – dark grey, with hidden gutters and 7-8 roof windows – which made the work especially demanding.

Result
